A product photo on a white background is no longer enough. Buying behavior has changed, and the data confirms it: 93% of consumers say video is a decisive factor when buying online, according to an Animoto survey cited in Brazil's first video commerce report (Widde, 2023-2024). Anyone selling on TikTok Shop and still treating video as an "extra" is leaving the platform's most powerful tool sitting in the drawer.

THE NUMBER THAT MATTERS MOST: CONVERSION

Within TikTok Shop itself, live shopping converts between 8% and 12% — against an average of 2% to 4% for traditional e-commerce. That is double or triple. And the effect does not end when the live ends: a standout broadcast can generate a 200% to 300% increase in sales over the following 24 hours, a "ripple effect" that a static photo simply does not produce.

The reason behind this is trust. 60% of users trust a product presented by a creator more than a traditional brand ad. The creator is not "selling" in the classic sense — they are showing, testing, reacting in real time, and that lowers the distrust barrier that any static ad carries.

REAL CASES IN BRAZIL

The Widde report documented two cases that show this impact well outside TikTok Shop, in owned e-commerce: the footwear brand Not-me Shoes saw a 188% increase in conversion rate when it implemented interactive video, with an impact of nearly R$2 million in revenue, and 97% of customers confirmed the video helped their purchase decision. LV Store, in turn, recorded 2.5 times more conversion in just one week after adopting video, with time on site jumping from 2 to 8 minutes — a 300% increase. In general, shops that implement interactive video report 3 to 4 times more conversion and 4 to 5 times more page retention.

THE CREATOR ECOSYSTEM IS ALREADY MATURE

On TikTok Shop, more than 100,000 creators take part in the affiliate program, and around 54,000 of them already generate more than US$10,000 in GMV a year — the mega creators, with more than 500,000 followers, earn US$20,000 or more a month just from sales commission. The platform's repurchase rate is 81.3%, with an average of 5.3 purchases per buyer a year, which shows that those who buy once through the video/creator format tend to buy again the same way.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR SELLERS

If your product already has a validated demand signal, the next bottleneck is usually not the product — it is the creative. Investing in creator video, unboxing, usage demonstration and, above all, in live tends to convert significantly more than keeping only a static image on the storefront. And here the logic connects directly with product choice: a good creative on top of the wrong product still does not sell — but the right product, validated by real growth data, with a well-made video creative on top of it, is the combination that really scales on TikTok Shop.
